Announcing the Wheeler Centre’s 2021 Next Chapter mentors

The Wheeler Centre announces the mentors who will work with The Next Chapter's second cohort of writers over the next 12 months.

We’re excited to announce the mentors who’ve been matched with The Next Chapter’s third cohort of writers. These mentors will work with each writer over 12 months to develop their work and help connect them with publishers and readers.

  • Novelist, essayist, and researcher Maria Tumarkin will mentor essayist and screenwriter Oliver Reeson

  • Novelist Mirandi Riwoe will mentor memoirist Sharlene Allsopp

  • Writer and poet Maxine Beneba Clarke will mentor poet, editor and curator Bigoa Chuol

  • Poet and researcher Evelyn Araluen will mentor writer, editor, and arts worker Lujayn Hourani

  • Cartoonist and educator Sarah Howell will mentor comic artist and zine-maker Mia Nie

  • Journalist, essayist, poet and fiction writer Anna Krien will mentor writer and editor Timothy Loveday

  • Memoirist Kristina Olsson will mentor writer and teacher Khin Myint

  • Author Bruce Pascoe will mentor writer Jonathan Slottje

  • Writer and theatre-maker Claire Christian will mentor editor and writer Allanah Hunt

  • Novelist Shane Maloney will mentor writer Angelina Hurley

Presented by the Wheeler Centre with support from the Aesop Foundation, The Next Chapter is about providing writers with the time and space to craft their voice and career. It's about investing in a new wave of writers who reflect the diversity of Australian identities and experiences.
