Candy Bowers: ‘There are these little explosions that start happening'
Candy Bowers talks about the changing nature of representation in Australian literature.
'In Australia we've seen some very similar demographics, you know, say winning prizes or what have you over the last few years. And then there are these little explosions that start happening, you know, Maxine Beneba Clarke, Leah Purcell, like all this stuff's coming up to the fore.'
'And so there's those moments for me when I have thought, "Look, nobody wants to hear from me. If they did, I would be more represented or I would be getting through the door". Sometimes it's taken actually looking over and seeing another woman of colour doing something extraordinary and going, "Yes I can".'
