Dan Hogan: ‘I really feel like I’ve developed as a writer in a fairly short amount of time'

2019 Next Chapter recipient Dan Hogan discusses how being mentored as part of the scheme has helped their writing.

The Next Chapter: Dan Hogan on being mentored

'I think the biggest thing I've got out of the mentorship so far is I really feel like I've developed as a writer in a fairly short amount of time. Like, I feel like I have improved due to the guidance from Rebecca [Giggs].

'It's been great, I can't say anything but good things about the mentorship. It's had a very measurable effect on my development as a writer, I think.'

Each year for the Next Chapter, we pick ten outstanding writers and give them $15,000 each to develop their work. We match them with a mentor and work closely with them on bringing their writing to life, connecting them with peers, publishers and readers.

Applications are now open until 10 August 2020. And remember, you can have someone nominate you, too. Find out more.
